Affiliate Success the 1st Key is…

One of the first keys to success in promoting affiliate
programs is finding a market niche.

A market niche is any segment of a market where you can
reach people effectively with a product or service
they will want to buy.

Let me give you an example:

I used to live in a little town of 5000 or so called Banff.

Out of the 5000 most were not permanent residents just
seasonal workers. Banff Alberta for those that may not
know is a Resort Town in Western Canada.

What a great experience something I’ll never forget
and for an avid skier like myself this was the best
choices I’ve ever made to go experience the splendor
of the West.

Anyways enough about geography right…

…back to the marketing

In that little town was one over-priced, under-stocked
grocery store. And it was ALWAYS busy.

Here’s why: The next nearest grocery was 30 minutes
away. Most of us didn’t even have cars let alone
wouldn’t want to drive that far just to pick up a bag
or two of groceries.

So the little over-priced, under-stocked grocery did
very well because they had a unique market.

If you want to make money, sell water in the middle of
a well-traveled desert.

Sell people what they ALREADY want. How can you find
out what people are looking for and WHERE they are
looking?

Here are some keys:

1. Use solid online tools.

People have already done much of the hard work for you
in determining what people are looking for.

Here are two solid tools you can use:

This tool will tell you exactly what keywords are
being searched for on a particular search engine and
how many other sites are listed for that keyword:

My suggestion is just use the Free Trial it’s a great starting place

This tool will tell you the top 50 most popular keyword listings.

This is a great way to determine demand for a product
or topic. http://nichebotclassic.com

2. Visit targeted forums and newsgroups.

Today almost every interest has its own forum or
newsgroup. By visiting these and reading the posts,
you can quickly see what those people are interested
in, what problems they need solved, what they are
already spending money on.

For a primer on using forums and newsgroups, go to:

3. Keep an eye on the culture.

Rosalind Gardner is a very sharp person. A number of
years ago she realized that internet dating was going
to be a huge trend in the years to come. She built a
site targeted to that market and now earns almost
$500,000 per year from affiliate programs.

You can pick her brain about exactly how you can do the same here:

Keep an eye on the culture and you might see a huge
opening.

Can you say Web 2.0 hmmmm ;)

Once you have identified a market niche, the next step
is to find a way to reach that particular group. If you can
do that, you are well on your way to making a good living
from affiliate programs.

While this is just a brief look at affiliate programs,
I have a complete 100+ page report on building a
growing income using affiliate programs.

them in another post

    Great post Scott!

To succeed in affiliate marketing, you’ve boiled it down to “Sell(ing) people what they ALREADY want“.
A slight addition to that statement might be to convince people of what they want…LOL.

    Excellent entry!
    ECS Dave

  2. Tricia says:

You hit the nail on the head Scott, as Dave mentions above, “sell(ing) people what they ALREADY want”.
Great to see the information coming through is so well targetted.

    Hi Scott,
Why reinvent the wheel. Thank you for these resources and your detailed plan. Rosalind Gardner is definitely an affiliate marketer who has kept her eye on the trends & has profited from them.

I find also that visiting forums & newsgroups is a great way to find out what others want. It’s also a great opportunity for me to share my knowledge with others.

    Hi, Scott.

Good stuff. It’s really easy to get focused on all the little things that you tend to reinvent the wheel a lot of the time. Coming up with products are easy: sell something some else will pay $$$ for.

Thanks for all the stuff you put out there as this blog has been great for a little tiny ‘preneur like myself.

    Hello Scott,

Thank you for this simple but informative post.

When we begin thinking that we’re selling people what they already want, it begins to elevate the idea of selling to that of providing a needed service. It’s nice to know that in earning an income, we’re also helping others.

    Nice post!

    Cheers,
    Ricardo
