How Do You Keep Going?

Whenever someone asks me how to start a business from home I always tell them one of the most important keys is finding a way to stay motivated. To believe they will eventually succeed. To keep going when they face some adversity.

As you start a business—online or off—I guarantee you will experience setbacks, frustrations, hostile customers and possibly even fraud. Like it or not these are a part of business.

When these things happen those who aren’t motivated to push through quit. They give up on their dream. No amount of instruction on how to start a business from home will do them any good—they have lost the fire.

How can you keep from becoming a casualty in 2008? One way is to anticipate the temptations you will have to give up. If you have a plan in advance you won’t be caught off guard emotionally or intellectually when adversity hits. In fact, you might just be able to laugh it off saying, “Yeah, I knew this was going to happen…”

So what are some things you need to prepare for? Here are some:

1. You will run out of money.
2. Someone will give your product a bad review.
3. You will have family and friends tell you you’re crazy.
4. You will have technical problems you can’t seem to fix.
5. Your customer service will be awful.
6. You will get nasty emails.
7. Your “best promotion ever” will totally bomb.
8. You will get cheated.

There might be more, but you get the picture.

So, how to do you overcome the temptation to quit when one (or more) of these things happen. Here is a four step plan:

1. Say out loud: “This isn’t so bad; I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. I know I can deal with this.”

I guarantee everything you experience in starting a business from home has been experienced by thousands of others. We’ve all been there. It’s going to be OK.

2. Evaluate whether or not this is a “real” issue or a “phantom.”

Some issues are real, some are not. Just because someone says in an email you are an awful “so-and-so” doesn’t mean much. But if in the middle of that email they tell you the download link isn’t working, you better check the download link and make sure it’s working. Name calling is a phantom issue, but it may be “caused” by a real issue.

3. Take action to correct anything you need to correct.

If you have an issue that needs to be corrected, correct it. Take action. If someone sends you a nasty email for no reason, unsubscribe them from your list. Psychologists tell us taking action is the best cure for fear—it gives us a sense of control.

4. Move on and run your business.

Now go about your day. Run your business. Move on to other tasks. Don’t dwell on the negative experience.

How do you start a business from home in 2008? The first step might just be to shake off the cobwebs of past failure and start again. To find out more on keys to staying motivated, I have put together this free guide:

Ya Gotta Love it

I’ve been involved in an ongoing debate for a
long time now. The debate has been between me,
myself, and I.

This debate is something that everyone has going
on within themselves. If this inner dialogue or
internal “debate” isn’t going on or has never
happened with you, you may have some serious
psychological problems going on with you.

What I’ve been debating with myself for so long
about is this….

“What am I going to do with my life? What would
really make me happy? What do I really enjoy
doing with my time? What is my purpose? What are
my goals for my life?”

Round and round we go. Me, myself and I are
constantly going back and forth on this.

So, like alot of you might do too, I read alot of
books. You know the “self-help” kind? The ones
that give you different perspectives, viewpoints
and techniques for finding true happiness.

Anyway, I just finished reading a book by Larry
Winget “The Pitbull of Personal Development” called

There is a paragraph in that book on page 184
that really made me think.

He said:

“Love What You Do….. When you love what you do,
you will become excellent at it. The more excellent
you are at what you do, the more you will be paid to
do it. Therefore, loving what you do is the key to
your personal compensation and your ultimate prosperity.
In addition, when you love what you do, you will be
happier, more confident, and even healthier because
you are more at ease with you life.”

Man, he nailed it! If you think about it that’s exactly right.

If you’re doing something you don’t like for a
living, why are you still doing it? Because you think
you have to?

I firmly believe that no one should do anything
that they don’t truly enjoy doing. Especially when
they are doing it to make a living and provide for
their family.

This has been a constant struggle for me and I’m
sure for most people.

When I first started my quest for making money
online, that’s exactly what it was for…. to find
ways to make money. Period.

I was constantly looking for ways to make more
money. Magazines, books, articles, courses,
seminars….it didn’t matter. I was constantly
looking for ways to make money. It didn’t really
matter to me how the money was going to be made,
as long as it worked and made money.

Now that I’ve found what I truly enjoy doing to
make money, things seem to get easier all the way
around.

I am still naturally constantly looking for ways
to make more money. But, now I’m alot more
discriminant about where I look and who I listen
to when I’m trying to find those money making ways.

So, I would urge you to really do some soul
searching. If you are looking for ways to make more
money and one of those ways is through Internet
Marketing, I would strongly suggest that you look
at the reasons why.

Why do you think making a living through online
ventures would really be enjoyable for you? Is it truly
something that you love doing?

If not, it will be a constant struggle. You won’t
have any fun. And because you aren’t having any fun
or if it’s a constant struggle, it will be hard to make
any real money at it.

It will be more work and pain and struggle than
it’s worth, just to make money.

In your quest to make more money, I would strongly
urge you to make sure that what you are going to be
doing to earn that money is something you truly love
doing.

You gotta love it or it isn’t worth it.

Whether it’s making money online or through other
means you gotta love what you do.

bed tonight.

~ Read a book to your kids today.

~ Take your wife to a movie.

~ Walk around the block.

Put the finishing touches on that software
product you have 99% done and upload it to your
site to sell.

considering.
